Self-Directed Brokerage Option (“SDO”)
Bank of Arkansas’ Self-Directed Brokerage Option (“SDO”) is an additional investment option that can be added to a 401(k) or other defined contribution plan at the option of a plan sponsor.
An SDO account allows participants to establish a Self-Directed Brokerage account (“SDO”) within their retirement plan to purchase mutual funds, and individual stocks and bonds not otherwise available as Core Fund options. Our SDO option provides participants the following features:
- Select a broker of their choice
- Invest in publicly traded stocks, bonds, and an extensive list of mutual funds
- Invest in both the Core Plan mutual fund options as well as their SDO
- Move money between their Core mutual fund options and their SDO account
- Elect to have their new contributions deposited directly to their SDO account
- Access their account via the internet
- Place trades online
- Request loan availability information utilizing their core and SDO account balance
- Receive a consolidated participant statement as well as a detailed SDO account statement
- Performance measurement reports
The Plan Sponsor enjoys the following benefits:
- Consolidated reporting of all plan assets (for 5500 purposes)
- Bank of Arkansas maintains contribution source information on the SDO accounts
- Consolidated recordkeeping for testing purposes, determining loan limits, and distributions
